After the second successful edition of New Dutch Wave at the leading festival South by Southwest (SXSW) in 2018, the organization now launches the Counterwave; an incoming trade mission, in collaboration with Brabant C, the investment fund for Culture. From 19 to 24 October, a number of important and influential creative entrepreneurs, investors, bookers and curators from the United States (USA) will visit the Netherlands during the Amsterdam Dance Event (ADE) and the Dutch Design Week (DDW). With guidance of New Dutch Wave (NDW) and Brabant C, the USA delegates will get acquainted with the Dutch creative industry.

For the past two years, New Dutch Wave is the place where the Dutch creative industry gathered and presented itself to a large international audience during SXSW in Austin, Texas. The Counterwave is a logical development to strengthen the ties between SXSW, the city of Austin and the USA, with our country and creative industry. During the Amsterdam Dance Event and the Dutch Design Week, New Dutch Wave therefore facilitates inspiring meeting points and contacts for Dutch makers, designers, thinkers and entrepreneurs and a selected colourful and influential group of creative entrepreneurs, investors, bookers and curators from the USA. They get the chance to meet the finest people of the Dutch creative industry in a direct and informal way.

Arne Koefoed, co-founder of New Dutch Wave and Head of Ideas at creative agency WINK: "For New Dutch Wave, the Counterwave is a great addition in our mission to create inspiring meeting places and long-term collaborations between our own creative industry and those abroad."

Frans van Dooremalen, director-manager of Brabant C: "After a visit from our scout Joy Arpots to SXSW in 2018, we mobilized stakeholders from Brabant (a region in the South of the Netherlands) to jointly exploit the opportunities of the global platform for high-tech, new media, creative industry and digital culture and to connect with the ambitions, knowledge and inspiration from the Brainport region. In Brabant the future is invented and shaped; our Brabant designers and creatives, entrepreneurs and start-ups deserve this international stage to boost the high-tech and high-touch forces of the region."

Other partners of the Counterwave are; Creative Holland, Amsterdam Dance Event, Brabant DC, Westergasfabriek, Dutch Design Week, Municipality of Eindhoven, Hightech XL, Amsterdam Trade, Eindhoven 365, Buma Stemra, BOM, Brainport Development, Muniucipality of Rotterdam and The Living Museum.

New Dutch Wave was established in 2016 from the idea that the Dutch initiatives that manifested themselves during SXSW had to be bundled in order to make a real impact. In 2017 and 2018 this resulted in a movement in which more than fifty partners joined to show, during SXSW, why the Netherlands is in the top ten of most innovative and creative countries in the world.

SXSW (March 8 to 17, 2019) is an annual festival in Austin, Texas USA on the cutting edge of interactive media, film and music. Over 2000 artists from more than fifty countries perform on more than hundred stages. Since 1987, SXSW has received world stars including Bruce Springsteen, Prince, Jay-Z and Pharrell. In the 2016 edition, President Barack Obama gave a speech at the festival. It underlines the growing importance of SXSW as a global festival. For SXSW19 speakers such as Wyclef Jean, Joseph Lubin, Zoe Saldana, Maria Shriver and Jeff Zucker have been announced.
